Summer makeup is all about having dewy glowing skin. It’s all about looking fresh. Personally, I prefer more lightweight foundations for the summer, so I gravitate toward the tinted moisturizers and BB/CC/EE combination creams. Wearing a heavy base makes me feel uncomfortable as the summer is already hot and sweaty enough.
These are my five holy grail fail-safe products that make my skin look beautiful and glowing, without sacrificing too much coverage:
This product is amazballs! I don’t understand why Pixi by Petra is an underrated brand because their products are fantastic. Petra, the woman behind the brand, uses the best ingredients. Her products have amazing quality most of them being paraben free. Second, the feminist in me loves that the brand is run by a woman. Third, the coverage is simply stunning and extremely skin like. It conceals imperfections beautifully and subtly.
I purchased the H20 Skin Tint last summer and have been using it all year. If you’re looking for something moisturizing this is a good one for all skin types, even if you have OILY SKIN! It’s water based, which means its oil free. It’s described as a tinted face gel, which I know sounds weird, but it works. In addition it has skin care benefits like, green tea for antioxidants, rose water, chamomile and lavender. Rose water is an amazing skin care ingredient that helps moisturize. The chamomile and lavender help soothe the skin. While I know some beauty guru’s complain about lavender oil being irritating to the skin, I have extremely sensitive skin and have been fine. I’ve seen a noticeable difference in my skin when I’ve used this product.
Finally, this product, get this, is WATER RESISTANT, which means you won’t sweat off, perfect for the summer months. Compared to all the products listed, this is the most long-lasting and has the most coverage. The coverage is a light to full medium. If you have good skin or don’t mind a few imperfections showing through, the coverage can even be a descent full.
Only complaint: It comes in only three different shades.
This is a fairly new release and I’m kind of obsessed with it. The coverage is light but very dewy. It sits nicely on the skin, almost as if you’re wearing nothing. My skin drinks it up making my skin look super healthy and glowing from within. Like the Pixi, it’s also a gel formulation, meaning its great for all skin types, even the oily once again.
But what makes this product a cut above the rest is the immense skin care benefits it has, hence the name. The product has marine botanicals to help replenish the skin, thus making it a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a moisturizing lightweight foundation. Another plus for the summer is that the Complexion Rescue has a SPF of 30, SPF being super super important if you want good and healthy long-lasting skin. Finally, the product does in 10 great shades to suit many skin tones.
The Body Shop is another brand that is completely underrated, but has fantastic products. This BB cream being one of them. When I first used this product, I didn’t like it, so it may not give the best first impression. It definitely offers more of a matte finish which at first I didn’t like, however, its supposed to work with the natural oils on your skin to bring out an inner glow throughout the day and I can say that it does.
The coverage is light to a light medium and unfortunately not the most long lasting without a primer, thus this BB cream is great for a slow day or for running quick errands. However, what makes this product a lifesaver is its main ingredient: Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree Oil is such an wonderful and natural ingredient to fight off those pesky spots and it fights them off in such a gentle way. While the product does smell heavily of tea tree, a scent I do not mind but you might if you don’t like minty smells. Nevertheless, the smell completely dissipates once on the face.
When using this product I have seen not only a noticeable difference in the size of my pores but in the amount of acne on my face as well. I have worn this BB cream on its own, but preferred to wear it under my foundation. While I know that may sound excessive, the BB cream just worked like a primer of sorts. This product is great for the oily/acne prone skins and can also work for combination skins, however it may not be so suitable for the driest of skins. Personally, I think this is a perfect first foundation choice for teens or young girls starting to get into makeup.
Complaint: Not so good of a shade range, only coming in three different shades
I was weary of mentioning two Chanel products in one post, so I just decided to mention both in the same category. See what I did there?
Chanel Les Beiges is all about the glow, hence the name once again. The product, like most Chanel products, is simply beautiful. The coverage is the most sheer since its considered to be more of a bronzing liquid than foundation. Nevertheless, I think it can still be used as a sheer tinted moisturizer. Since I love products that can meet multiple needs, this product too has skin care benefits. It’s hydrating and has an SPF of 15. It evens out the complexion beautifully making you look like you’re glowing from within. The shade range could be better but isn’t so bad. It comes in five different shades.
However, like all Chanel products it comes with a hefty price tag, so if you’re in the mood to splurge, go for it because it is limited edition.
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is a foundation formulation, not a tinted moisturizer. The coverage is a semi-matte medium to a decent full coverage. It feels weightless on the skin and makes you look luminous without making you look too shiny. It has more coverage in comparison to the other products mentioned.Personally, I think the Pixi H20 Skin Tint is a good dupe for this product.
The product is also water based thus making it oil free. It allows for a very fresh and hydrating complexion, great for all skin types. Additionally, the product also has many skin care benefits and an SPF of 15. I’ve seen a noticeable difference in my skin after using this lovely foundation. While they have discontinued my shade and I am very sad about it, the foundation does come in 10 different shades.
Remember to give it a good shake before you use it, or else it will come out watery.
This foundation has a huge cult following with many beauty bloggers and I see why. Bourjois is a fantastic cosmetic brand, as it owns Chanel so it’s not a surprise that it’s products are amazing quality. The brand is sold almost worldwide, with the exception of the United States. I humbly apologize to my American readers. However the product can be purchased on Amazon and on Asos.
Bourjois has two Healthy Mix foundations one being the original Healthy Mix the other being the Healthy Mix Serum. While I love both and could use them interchangeably, I prefer the Serum foundation. It gives a beautiful finish and a lovely coverage, a light to full medium. It’s also is enriched with vitamins to help hydrate and soothe the skin to give it a subtle luminosity. This product is also a gel formulation, so its great for all skin types.
However, it says on the tin that it’ll hold for 16 hours and let me tell you, without a primer or powder, it won’t. It will last for most of the day, but not all of it. Also, it only comes in four different shades and all of them are very alike.
Other Summer Tips:
Makeup can easily slip off in the summer. Some tips to help: Remember Primer or a Setting spray, use a Water Resistant foundation like the Pixi H20 Skin Tint or even the Mac Face and Body (it’s very sheer in coverage), and do not forget to powder the face, especially where you are usually oily.
