I have really dry, thick, long hair. My hair is color treated and damaged. I have everything, from breakage to split ends. I was not aware of how damaged my hair was until people started telling me that my hair needed some serious love. I remember looking in the mirror and realizing that I needed to stop using heat on my hair because yikes! My hair was looking like hay and I was getting really self-conscious about it. I started putting my hair up in a ponytail so people wouldn’t pay attention to how my hair looked. I was in desperate need for a miracle.
I heard about the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask, from YouTubers, Tati Westbrook and Kathleen Lights. Tati describes this product as magical and Kathleen has described this product as her, “favourite hair mask ever.” It also won the 2018 Allure Reader’s Choice Award for best conditioner. Briogeo is a cruelty-free brand. You can find Briogeo products at Sephora.
What it is:
If you want to use this product as a conditioner you are supposed to leave it in for ten minutes. If you want to use it as deep conditioning mask you are supposed to cover your hair in a plastic cap and leave it in your hair for about 20-30 minutes. Briogeo advises that you use this product once per week or every two weeks. This product costs $46.00 (CAD) for 237 mL bottle. This product is meant for dry, damaged, and chemically treated hair. It claims that it will make your hair hydrated, vibrant, and will replenish your damaged hair. The majority of the conditioner is made with natural ingredients. The conditioner is not made with any harsh sulfates, phthalates, parabens, silicones, DEA, or artificial dyes.
They are advantages and disadvantages of having sulfates and silicones in your hair products. According to Self Magazine, “sulfates help get rid of dead skin cells but can strip the natural oils from your hair causing your hair to become dry.” Sulfates are not recommended for people who have colour treated hair because it can strip the colour out of your hair. Silicones can make your hair look healthy and shiny but only for a few days. Silicones can prevent moisture from absorbing into your hair. The Coveteur writes that ” By nature, silicones are very hydrophobic, meaning they do not wash out easily, leaving hair feeling heavy and greasy at the end of the day.” According to Elle UK, “parabens are preservatives that prolong shelf life in many health and beauty products by preventing the growth of mould and bacteria within them. Elle writes that Parabens are, “believed to be linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues,” but there is no concrete research that proves parabens are truly bad for us.
Why I Am Obsessed With This Product
I’ve been using this product for over six months now and I love it. I usually use it once every week an apply it to all of my hair except the scalp and leave it in for 10-15 minutes. After using this conditioner my hair feels so much softer and luscious looking. People even started noticing the difference in my hair. I definitely noticed less dead ends and breakage. My hair is finally hydrated and healthy looking. I am currently on my second bottle.
Yes, it is definitely pricey but it is worth every penny. If you are looking for a product to help bring your hair back to life but don’ want to buy the standard size you can try the mini size and see if it makes a difference in your hair. It’s cheaper if you buy it from Sephora than from the Briogeo website.
After I saw the results I looked into the ingredients. This conditioning mask is made with up of Rosehip Oil, Almond Oil, Avocado oil, algae extract and b-vitamins. It’s always great to have some kind of oil in your hair products because oil can help moisturize your hair, make it feel soft, and keep it shiny. The mask also includes biotin which helps with hair growth. B-vitamins are great because they provide nutrients to your damaged hair. The Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask does have fragrance in it. I personally don’t love the smell but it’s bearable.
