Being middle-eastern unfortunately my hair tends to grow back fast. I have peach fuzz on my face and my moustache leaves a lovely shadow on my upper lip. The first time I noticed I had a moustache I was in grade six. I remember looking at the mirror and being horrified that I hadn’t noticed it sooner. I used my mom’s tweezers to pluck out the hairs, but I didn’t get all of them. Of course, my moustache grew back and in a desperate attempt to get rid of the hair I used Nair on my face. I remember telling my mom I used Nair on my face and she yelled at me. She said if I ever did it again it will grow back thicker than a man’s beard. My mom would bleach the peach fuzz on her face. I tried it once and couldn’t stand the burning sensation. Eventually, she took me to the salon to get my moustache threaded but of course it always grew back. I would have to walk around with my moustache only getting thicker until I could go to the salon again. I needed a more quicker and efficient way of getting rid of the peach fuzz. This is where dermaplaning came in.
When I saw beauty vlogger Carli Bybel share how she shaves her face using eyebrow razors I knew I had to get my hands on them. She posted that video four years ago and at the time eyebrow razors weren’t sold at your local drugstore. Carli said she purchased a pack of eyebrow razors from Sally’s Beauty and said you cam buy them from Amazon. So off I went to Sally’s Beauty, I purchased a pack of eyebrow razors and they were a lifesaver.
I discovered that spa’s actually provide a treatment where they shave your face called Dermaplaning. Cosmopolitan, writes that dermaplaning, ” is an exfoliating treatment that involves a dermatologist or licensed medical aesthetician gently scraping the surface of your skin with a surgical scalpel to remove dead skin.” There are spas that offer dermaplaning, but I have yet to get dermaplaning done at a spa.
First I cleanse my face, and then if I see hair on my face I will go in with eyebrow razor. I shave my face once a week and clean the razors with alcohol. After three uses or so I throw them out and buy a new pack. What’s great about using eyebrow razors is that they’re completely painless. You might experience some redness after using them. You can use them to clean around your eyebrows but once I did that and I ended up cutting my eyelashes short. So I never did that again. It’s taken me forever to grow back my eyelashes.
Not only does my skin look lighter and brighter after all the hair on my face is removed but my skin feels much softer. My foundation and concealer applies more smoothly and there’s a seamless and an almost airbrush finish to the skin. I know many are afraid of using them because they believe their hair will grow back faster. Personally, my hair doesn’t grow back any faster than it usually does. Even if I did, it wouldn’t matter to me because using eyebrow razors on my skin is just so convenient. I never have to be worried about walking out with a newly grown stache. I can just quickly shave it off and leave the house hair-free.
Medical aesthetician Tamila Deveny tells Cosmopolitan that, “because you’re removing all your dead skin cells, your skincare products will better penetrate your skin when you apply them, making them all the more effective. She says if you have ultra-sensitive skin you should talk to a dermatologist before you try it. Deveny also confirms that your hair will not grow any faster it will grow at the same speed it always does.
I recently purchased the Wahl Clean and Smooth Lady’s Clean & Smooth Precision Detailer from Wal-Mart. It’s powered by a battery. I like the Wahl detailer for removing the hair on my face and I like using the eyebrow razors to get rid of my moustache. For anyone who is interested in dermaplaning or shaving their face at home I recommend doing research or asking a professional to see if it’s right for you.
