L’Oréal Paris True Match Nude Tinted Serum vs L’Oréal True Match Foundation: Which One Should You Buy?

If you’ve been curious about L’Oréal’s Tinted Serum and L’Oréal’s True Match Foundation and wondering which one is actually worth buying, you’re not alone. It’s hard to be sure when both promise hydration, a natural finish, and that “your skin but better” look.

I’ve been wearing and testing both for a while now, and the differences really show once you start paying attention to how they apply, how they wear, and how your skin looks by the end of the day. One feels modern, glowy, and effortless, while the other is a longtime classic that’s been thoughtfully updated.

As a beauty editor, I test a lot of base products, so I wanted to break this comparison down in a way that’s honest, practical, and actually helpful, no marketing fluff, just how these two really perform. If you’re standing in the drugstore aisle debating between the two, this should make the decision much easier.

About the L’Oréal Paris True Match Nude Tinted Serum

The L’Oréal tinted serum launched in 2021 and is meant to be a hybrid between skincare and makeup. Think “your skin but healthier.”

Key ingredients & formula vibe

  • 1% Hyaluronic Acid: lightweight hydration and subtle plumping
  • Luminous mineral pigments: sheer, glowy coverage
  • Water-serum texture that sinks in fast
  • Very lightweight on the skin

Coverage & finish

  • Coverage: Sheer (buildable to light)
  • Finish: Nude, radiant, skin-like
  • Evens out the skin tone but won’t cover acne, pigmentation, or redness fully

Shade range

  • 12 shades
  • Flexible undertones, but not super precise

Best for

  • Those with dry or normal skin will love it, and can work with combo or oily skin with powder
  • No-makeup makeup days
  • Anyone who hates the feeling of foundation

My Review of the L’Oréal Paris True Match Nude Tinted Serum

The Tinted Serum is absolutely stunning. It evens out my skin tone beautifully and gives that soft, healthy glow that instantly reminds me of the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It looks luminous without being greasy, feels hydrating, and wears longer than you’d expect for something so lightweight. It’s one of those products where your skin just looks nice, smooth, fresh, and naturally radiant. One thing I hate is the applicator; it’s messy, and the product doesn’t always come out.

About the L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation

The L’Oréal True Match Foundation first launched back in 1994, but the formula was updated in 2023.

The foundation was reformulated and repackaged, positioning it as a true skin-care infused foundation and modernized for today’s makeup wearer.

The updated version now comes with a pump applicator (Thank God), making application cleaner, easier, and far more practical than the old bottle design.

Key ingredients & formula vibe

  • 80% moisturizing cream
  • Hyaluronic Acid for long-term hydration
  • Silicone-based (dimethicone, trimethylsiloxysilicate) for smoother wear and longevity
  • Non-comedogenic & suitable for sensitive skin

Coverage & finish

  • Coverage: Medium (buildable)
  • Finish: Natural, bare-skin glow (not dewy, not matte)
  • Long lasting

Shade range

  • 45 shades
  • Up to 6 pigments per shade: very precise undertone matching (cool, warm, neutral)

Best for

  • Someone who wants more coverage and a more affordable foundation
  • Those with dry skin can work with combo or oily skin with powder
  • Every day wear, work, events

Overall, this is still makeup. It hydrates well, but the alcohol and silicones mean it’s designed for performance and blendability, not serum-level skin treatment.

My Review of the L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation

As for L’Oréal True Match, this is a nostalgic product for me. I used to wear it all the time in high school and loved it back then. Since the reformulation in 2023, the formula became vegan, fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and more skincare-focused. It’s definitely more hydrating than the old version, still has that natural, skin-like finish, and remains long-wearing. It still feels lightweight, and the fact that it doesn’t have a scent is a game-changer! The fragrance was so strong that your face smelled like a perfume aisle. Thank God they added a pump, because before you would have to pour it onto your hand, and it would get everywhere.

Final Verdict: Which One Should You Buy?

I personally reach for the Tinted Serum more. Even though True Match is improved and very good, the Tinted Serum makes my skin look amazing. It feels more modern, more effortless, and more aligned with how I like my base makeup to look in 2025.

The two products serve different makeup moods, and ultimately, not everyone can try the tinted serum because it’s not offered in as many shades as the foundation.

  • Choose the Tinted Serum if you want hydration, a glowy, natural finish, that will even out the skin tone.
  • Choose True Match if you want more coverage, better shade accuracy, and longer wear while still benefiting from the skincare ingredients.
