Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mist vs. Rhode Glazing Mist: Which Hydrating Mist Is Better?

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mist and Rhode Glazing Mist

Face mists have gone from being an afterthought in skincare routines to one of the beauty industry’s biggest categories. Instead of simply refreshing your skin throughout the day, today’s formulas are packed with ingredients that hydrate, soothe, and strengthen the skin barrier. Summer Fridays kicked off the conversation with its Jet Lag Skin Soothing Hydration Mist, and Rhode later joined the category with its Glazing Mist, bringing its signature glazed-skin philosophy to a facial spray.

On paper, both promise hydrated, healthier-looking skin, but their formulas are surprisingly different. One is designed to replenish dehydrated skin, while the other focuses on strengthening your skin barrier. So, which one is actually worth adding to your routine?

As a beauty editor, I get to test out a lot of skincare products, so I compared the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Skin Soothing Hydration Mist and Rhode Glazing Mist to break down their ingredients, similarities, differences, and which one I think is the better buy depending on your skin’s needs.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mist vs. Rhode Glazing Mist: Similarities

Both Are Fragrance-Free Hydrating Mists Designed to Support the Skin Barrier

Although these mists have different formulas, they’re trying to achieve many of the same goals. Both are fragrance-free facial mists designed to hydrate the skin, soothe irritation, and support a healthy skin barrier. They’re also suitable for all skin types, especially dry and dehydrated skin.

Both Use Humectants to Deliver Long-Lasting Hydration

Hydration is at the core of both formulas. Each mist contains glycerin, one of skincare’s most effective humectants, along with panthenol (vitamin B5) to attract and retain moisture while helping calm the skin.

Both formulas also feature ectoin, an ingredient that protects the skin from environmental stress while helping reduce water loss.

Both Include Barrier-Supporting Ingredients

Each mist contains ceramides to help reinforce the skin’s natural barrier and reduce moisture loss. While the way they support the barrier differs, both formulas are designed to leave skin feeling healthier and more resilient over time.

Both Contain Soothing Ingredients for Sensitive Skin

Both mists include ingredients that help calm irritation and reduce visible redness.

Summer Fridays relies on soothing botanical extracts like centella asiatica, aloe vera, cucumber extract, green tea, and allantoin, while Rhode uses beta-glucan and magnolia bark extract to calm stressed skin.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mist vs. Rhode Glazing Mist: Differences

Formula Philosophy: Hydration First vs. Barrier Repair First

Although both formulas hydrate the skin, they take different approaches.

Summer Fridays was designed to replenish dehydrated, stressed skin with a combination of humectants, soothing botanical extracts, antioxidants, and nourishing lipids.

Rhode takes a more minimalist approach, focusing on repairing and strengthening the skin barrier with skin-identical lipids like ceramides, cholesterol, and phytosphingosine.

Hydration: Which Mist Delivers More Moisture?

Both formulas are hydrating, but Summer Fridays contains a broader range of moisturizing ingredients.

Its formula combines glycerin, propanediol, pentylene glycol, aloe vera, panthenol, ectoin, squalane, shea butter, and olive oil to replenish moisture and help prevent dehydration.

Rhode also hydrates well with glycerin, panthenol, ectoin, and beta-glucan, but its formula is more focused on barrier support than layering multiple hydrating ingredients.

Barrier Support: Which Formula Better Strengthens the Skin Barrier?

This is where Rhode stands out.

Its formula combines Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, cholesterol, and phytosphingosine, ingredients naturally found within the skin barrier that work together to strengthen and repair it.

Summer Fridays also supports the barrier with Ceramide NP, hydrogenated lecithin, glycolipids, squalane, and nourishing lipids, but it doesn’t include the complete ceramide-lipid complex found in Rhode.

Soothing Ingredients: Which Mist Is Better for Redness and Irritation?

Summer Fridays contains a wider variety of soothing ingredients, including centella asiatica, green tea, cucumber extract, aloe vera, and allantoin, making it particularly appealing for skin that feels irritated or dehydrated.

Rhode keeps things simpler with beta-glucan and magnolia bark extract, both excellent soothing ingredients, but with fewer calming botanicals overall.

Texture and Finish: Lightweight Refreshment or a Glazed Glow?

The biggest difference you’ll notice immediately is the finish.

Summer Fridays has a lightweight, refreshing texture that absorbs quickly and leaves skin looking naturally hydrated without feeling heavy.

Rhode has a milkier consistency that leaves behind a richer, dewier finish, creating the glazed skin look the brand is known for.

If you prefer a barely-there mist, Summer Fridays will likely be your favourite. If you love a luminous, glazed complexion, Rhode is the better choice.

My Verdict

Both formulas are excellent, but they’re not trying to do exactly the same thing.

The Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mist was created to replenish the dehydrated skin that often comes with travelling—hence the name. That said, you definitely don’t need to be boarding a flight to appreciate it. My skin absolutely loved this mist anytime it felt completely deprived of moisture. It delivers an instant hit of hydration and leaves my skin looking fresh and healthy without feeling heavy.

The Rhode Glazing Mist, on the other hand, is my favourite skincare product the brand has released so far. While it hydrates well, I think its biggest strength is its sophisticated barrier-focused formula. The combination of three ceramides, cholesterol, phytosphingosine, beta-glucan, and ectoin makes it a fantastic option whenever my skin barrier needs a little extra attention, especially after using stronger active ingredients or during colder months.

If your biggest concern is dehydration, I’d choose Summer Fridays. It has a broader mix of humectants, soothing botanical extracts, antioxidants, and nourishing lipids that make it feel like a complete hydration treatment in mist form.

If your skin barrier is feeling compromised or you’re looking for a mist that does more than simply hydrate, Rhode is the one I’d reach for. Its skin-identical lipid complex is one of the most thoughtfully formulated barrier-support systems I’ve seen in a facial mist.

Neither is necessarily better—they’re simply made for different skin concerns. For dehydration, I’d recommend Summer Fridays. For barrier repair and maintaining a healthy skin barrier, Rhode takes the win.

Which Mist Should You Choose?

Choose Summer Fridays if:

  • Your skin feels dehydrated.
  • You struggle with redness.
  • You want a refreshing facial mist.
  • You prefer lightweight hydration.
  • You want more soothing botanical ingredients.

Choose Rhode if:

  • Your main goal is strengthening your skin barrier.
  • Your skin barrier feels damaged.
  • You use retinol or exfoliating acids.
  • You love a glazed, dewy complexion.
  • You prefer richer skincare.
